Eagles for Eagles will build New Eagle Aviary

CHARLOTTE: Carolina Raptor Center announced today an initiative to raise $200,000 from Charlotte area Eagle Scouts to build the Bald Eagle Aviary on its new campus.

“CRC has a legacy of collaboration with the Boy Scouts over the past thirty years as the site of more than 230 Eagle Scout projects,” said CRC Executive Director and Eagle Scout Jim Warren. “Our ‘Eagles for Eagles’ initiative will honor that collaboration and provide a centerpiece exhibit for the new Raptor Trail.”

CRC is asking Eagle Scouts in the Carolinas to consider a three-year pledge of $1,000, $3,000 or $6,000+ to support this important effort. The Eagle Scout campaign kicked off last week and will culminate in December 2017.

“Carolina Raptor Center’s new Bald Eagle Aviary at the Quest Adventure Center will recognize the high ideals, civic contributions and service of Scouting and Eagle Scouts, in particular,” said Eagles for Eagles committee member Bob Morgan. “The Raptor Trail will be a celebration of how birds inspire humans, and the Eagle Scout program is a great example of that call to leadership and activation in the community.”

It is fitting that Carolina Raptor Center should inspire so many Eagle Scout projects; in fact, the most in the region at 231 and counting. Carolina Raptor Center is home to two species of eagles – the Bald Eagle and the Golden Eagle. The public can visit these beautiful birds at the Center’s eagle aviary. Bald Eagles have inspired Americans for centuries from the battlefield to the halls of government. In scouting, “Eagle” is the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank and one of its most familiar icons. Only a small percentage of Boy Scouts are granted this rank, and Eagle Scouts hold that distinction for life – once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout.

Many prominent leaders in the Charlotte region and beyond are proud Eagle Scouts. The steering committee for this initiative is made up of the following Charlotte Eagle Scouts: • Bob Morgan, President and CEO, Charlotte Chamber;

• Richard Vinroot, Attorney and former Charlotte Mayor; • Rich Carter, CPA, and former CRC Board Chair; • Jette Campbell, Partner with Carl Marks Advisors; • Will Barnhardt, President, Technical Textiles; and • Pat Riley, President and CEO, Allen Tate Realty.
